Kelvyn Eglinton – Founder and Executive Director

Kelvyn’s career  is best described as a Corporate-Community Strategist.  Throughout his career Kelvyn has taken commercial approaches to achieving outcomes for communities across the globe.

A decade  of deep involvement in social responsibility  strategies and Social Performance initiatives for international mining company, Newmont Mining Corporation (now Newmont Goldcorp) included stints across Asia Pacific as Regional Manager; Social Responsibility and then Director of External Affairs overseeing social performance, indigenous relations, government, media, communications and development programmes across Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand and Soloman Islands.

An 18-month stint as the Chief of Staff in the Jakarta office oversaw the government relations and renegotiation of the contract of work with the Government of Indonesia and the environmental and social programmes for the operation on Sumbawa Island which employed a 7000 strong workforce and provided development support to communities. His first foray into Corporate Social Responsibility was as External Affairs Manager for Newmont Waihi Gold, working with the communities and Iwi of the Coromandel and with government agencies and media.

Kelvyn is a Chartered Member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors, a member of Oceana Gold’s Independent Panel for Social Performance, a board member of Surf Lifesaving NZ, a trustee of the New Zealand Surf Lifesaving Foundation and recently appointed as a board member of Waipa Communities Facilities Trust.

In previous capacities Kelvyn has been a member of the Advisory Board for the Centre for Regional Development at the University of Western Australia, Chairman of the  Co-operative Research Centre Remote Economic Participation – Enduring Community Value programme, a member of AMCHAM (American Chamber of Commerce) in Indonesia, Chairman of the Minerals Council of Australia Sustainability Conference,  Guest Lecturer Corporate External Affairs – Master in Business Curtin University (Resources) and Ministerial Appointment to Western Australian Regional Parks Committee.

 

On his return to New Zealand in 2016 Kelvyn was General Manager City Growth for Hamilton City Council where he was responsible for leading the Council’s response to development, growth and the economy.  This role initiated a Housing Infrastructure programme with central government as part of a 180M dollar interest free loan agreement and Special Housing Accord for faster housing supply.  In addition Kelvyn establishing the support of Hamilton City for the Waikato Regional Economic Development agency – Te Waka and initiated a prospectus and investment programme for business within Hamilton.

To make a real and lasting difference in our community, is at the heart of Kelvyn’s leadership of Momentum Waikato. Momentum Waikato is building a permanent endowment, the Waikato Future Fund, to generating returns to invest in local change agents, is leading the development of the Waikato Regional Theatre and connecting partnerships for greater outcomes.
